For those of you who have been reading my blog for a while, you know that I wrote extensively about both of my pregnancies. After my first pregnancy, I was actually contacted to share my experiences on Type 1 diabetes and pregnancy for a book to be published.

Baby #2’s Birth
Posted onOn Tuesday, July 19th (my husband’s birthday), we welcomed our second son into this world. He was born via C-section at 9:47AM, weighing 11 pounds 2 ounces and 22 inches long. Unlike my first son’s birth, this birth was a lot less dramatic.
Introducing…
Posted onThe newest addition to my family!! This little guy arrived last Tuesday, the 19th at 9:47AM via c-section. He weighed a whopping 11 pounds 2 ounces and was 22 inches long. I’m still recovering but hope to share the birth story and how my blood sugars and baby did soon! Have a great weekend and […]
One More Day!
Posted onTomorrow is the big day!! I get to meet my second baby boy! I’m officially 38 weeks today and I feel ginormous! The last week or so has been really tough; I haven’t been able to move around as much and I am so exhausted! Luckily, my husband has reduced his hours at work this past week so he has been able to help out with our toddler.
35 Weeks Pregnant
Posted onHappy July! It’s been a while since I’ve posted, almost a month! Honestly, this pregnancy is getting the better of me. I have been fighting a cold for what seems like forever (in reality it’s been about three weeks). My last “pregnancy” specific post was when I was entering the third trimester, which seems like a lifetime ago! So I thought I’d try and take a minute to catch you up on what’s been going on.
Diabetes and Big Babies
Posted onNow that I am approaching the end of my pregnancy, I’m mad. In the Diabetes Online Community, we spent a lot of time talking about diabetes stigma and the differences and similarities between the different types. But one thing that isn’t talked about much is the stigma surrounding diabetes and pregnancy. The default go-to is that if you have poorly controlled diabetes you will have a big baby. This makes me so mad.
Third Trimester!
Posted onOn Monday, my baby bump turned 28 weeks old! I’m officially in the third trimester and I can’t believe it. What is crazier is that this baby will be born in less than 11 weeks!! This pregnancy is definitely going by way faster than my first.
Second Trimester Adventures
Posted onAs my second trimester is drawing to a close, I thought I’d share some of the fun stuff that I’ve been up to as my baby has been growing. Last weekend, my family and I went to my alma mater, Virginia Tech for their spring game. It was a lot of fun but also very exhausting. It was the first time doing a three hour plus car ride with my son and our first overnight stay with him since he was 8 months old (he’s almost 18 months now).
Pregnancy with Type 1 Diabetes!
Posted onIf you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you might remember a post I did titled A Month-to-Month Guide to Pregnancy with T1D. I wrote the blog post because two of my favorite diabetics (Jenny Smith and Ginger Vieira) are writing a book on T1D and Pregnancy and asked for other T1Ds to share their pregnancy experiences. Initially, they were hoping to release the book in early 2016 but have hit a roadblock. Apparently, book publishers and even diabetic companies think that the market of people that are Type 1 diabetic and pregnant is too small to be profitable to publish. While the market might be small, it’s so important.
First Pregnancy Versus Second Pregnancy
Posted on“They” say that every pregnancy is different. I had no idea that would be the case, but it sure is true! I’m 23 weeks into this pregnancy and it’s been incredibly different than my last. I had a very easy first trimester with my first. If I was tired, I would take a nap. I didn’t have morning sickness and minus a little constipation very early on, I didn’t have any stomach issues either. This pregnancy, however, has been rough! I’ve been beyond exhausted. I don’t even think exhausted covers what I’ve been feeling. Sure the first trimester is usually exhausting, but I don’t have the luxury of taking naps when I want anymore. I’m busy chasing my active toddler around non-stop. Even now well into the second trimester, I’m still really exhausted. By the second trimester with my first pregnancy, I was starting to get my energy back. That is definitely not the case this time around. I’ve also had stomach troubles throughout the ENTIRE pregnancy so far. Just when I thought I was doing better, bam I get hit with something like I did last Sunday night when I spent the entire night in the bathroom-not fun at all! I’ve also had a lot more stress this time around with work, insurance issues, taking care of the kid and keeping up with housework, it’s just a lot to do while pregnant. I don’t know how people have more than two kids! This is exhausting. I will say there are some other funny differences between pregnancies:
