December-January Happenings

Posted on

I feel like all my posts recently are just updates on my life.  I’ll eventually get back to different type of posts (my New Year’s resolution is one blog post per week) but for now I thought I’d do another update (last one was in November).

Merry Christmas from my family to yours!

December was one crazy month! I spent about a week buying presents and getting ready/decorating for Christmas. My in-laws came to visit for about a week. I spent a week trying to get caught up on work then it was Christmas and I got sick the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day.  I also managed to fit in an endocrinologist appointment, a White Elephant gift exchange with some friends, two birthday parties, some playdates, children’s museum and art classes, THREE visits to the Christmas lights at the Botanical Gardens and FOUR visits to see Santa.  All in all a busy but fun month.

My baby turned 5 months old.  He has started rolling and rolls non-stop! He’s getting happier and happier each day (less fussy!) and it’s so fun to see his smiles.  So far, he’s been a pretty decent sleeper but he is starting to fight naps more and not go down to sleep at night as easily.  I am still nursing to sleep (bad crutch!) but I’m thinking I will be stopping that in the next few weeks as we transition to sleep training. I am waiting until the 6 month mark to introduce solids so I have a few more weeks of exclusively breastfeeding.

My toddler is enjoying being a big brother.  We have to keep a close eye on him though when he’s around his brother because he is not too gentle.  Last week, he threw a book at the baby (who was in his crib) so fast and it hit his head causing a bad bump.  We just turned his car seat around so he is now forward facing!  He is such a big boy so while I wanted to go to three, we at least made it to two (26 months to be exact).  He is a fairly picky eater but loves fruit and the occasional carrot.  He also made us watch Rudoph the Red Nosed Reindeer about a million times the week between Christmas and New Year’s (when I was sick) so I’m fairly certain my version of hell is where the is playing on repeat.  Please no more “silver and gold”.  I’m happy to have Curious George back in my life!

I can’t remember the last time I updated my CGM data and now that I’m thinking about it, I don’t even know where the Carelink Connect to upload the data even is. I must go find that now.  Overall, I think things are OK.  I haven’t had too many high blood sugars recently but I’m also not trending too low either.  I think I manage to test my blood sugar about four times a day but luckily I keep my CGM in round the clock.

I went to the endocrinologist back in December and I was expecting and A1C in the 8’s.  My CGM data reflected that but when I got my result back, it was 7.0!  I haven’t been in the 8’s in a long time so I was happy to see a 7.  I hope I can pay a little more attention to get it down below seven again (mainly for long-term health).

Last time I made a gingerbread house was a few days before I was diagnosed with T1D!

Since my baby was born, I’ve noticed that I’ve gotten sick at least once a month and they were colds that lasted about a week.  I’m not sure what’s going on with my body but I’m beginning to wonder if something is wrong.  Granted my toddler did start preschool but he’s only been sick once in the past 4-5 months.

I still haven’t connected to my new insulin pump (that I got back in October) but I’m beginning to think I won’t and I will just wait until the new pump (Minimed 670G) comes out in April.  According to Minimed and my insurance, it should be free if I trade in my new 630G pump.

January is shaping up to be a good month too.  I met two Type 1 diabetics in my area!  We connected from a Facebook group that we were all in and realized we were in the same area.  We met up and it was so cool to connect with them!  We all have kids around the same age so I think we will get together again which should be fun!

I have a MNO this Friday and my birthday is next week.  All I really want for my birthday is a day to sleep (where I’m not sick) haha.  I’m not sure if that will happen or not but I’m looking forward to having my husband at least help out with the kids some.  My birthday is also when my son turns 6 months old so we will be introducing solids to him then.  He will also be getting his 6 month vaccines-boo.

We also just got 8 inches of snow!  I’m definitely feeling stir-crazy but I enjoyed sledding a little bit with my son.

January is also busy work wise for me because I have to do year end taxes.  I have some help with the kids this month so hopefully I’ll be able to find time to work and maybe even a little extra time to read some diabetes blogs! I also joined a new book club so hoping to find time to read the next book for that.  All in all things have been super hectic and chaotic but I feel like I’m finally digging out from my huge pile of things to do.  Now to start taking care of my health…
