If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you might remember a post I did titled A Month-to-Month Guide to Pregnancy with T1D. I wrote the blog post because two of my favorite diabetics (Jenny Smith and Ginger Vieira) are writing a book on T1D and Pregnancy and asked for other T1Ds to share their pregnancy experiences. Initially, they were hoping to release the book in early 2016 but have hit a roadblock. Apparently, book publishers and even diabetic companies think that the market of people that are Type 1 diabetic and pregnant is too small to be profitable to publish. While the market might be small, it’s so important.
Being a T1D who has been pregnant myself, I feel a book on pregnancy specifically related to T1D is very important. When I was pregnant with my first, I relied heavily on Cheryl Akron’s book Balancing Pregnancy with Pre-existing Diabetes and I couldn’t imagine having gone through the pregnancy without it. If there was a book specifically tailored to T1D that would be even better! Pregnancy with Type 1 diabetes is so scary. Having a great resource like this book would be so helpful. Jenny is my CDE and she is basically the reason my first pregnancy was a success and why this pregnancy is going well so far. She has a vast knowledge and if she shares even half of what she knows in this book, then it would be immensely helpful to future pregnant mommas.
So what is there to do? Well, Ginger and Jenny have started a Kickstarter campaign to try and raise some money so that the book can be published. If you have even a few dollars to donate, it would be so appreciated to not only Ginger, Jenny and myself but also any T1Ds who might become pregnant in the future. Please considering donating and helping them out! To learn more, check out their video:
