Well, I’ve made it about halfway through the second trimester, 23 weeks pregnant! I’ve been slacking recently with writing, mainly because so much has been happening. March started off with my mother-in-law visiting then I had a girls weekend away with my mom and sister. Work has been super busy and luckily last week was Spring Break for the high school students so I could have a mother’s helper come every day to help watch my toddler while I worked.
I’ve also been chasing my toddler around…he turns 17 months old today and I can’t believe he will be 1.5 years old in a month! He is at such a fun age now. He is understanding everything I say and while he isn’t quite talking yet, he is clearly communicating with me on his wants and needs. He is constantly smiling and laughing and he never slows down. He has also gotten a little shy and timid at times, especially around a big crowd but then at other times he will randomly surprise me and be a big ham. He is getting pickier with his food but this seems to be normal toddler behavior. He has recently gotten a few molars in and that has been pretty rough on him. I’ve just signed him up for Romp n Roll classes so between that, story time at the library, music class, art class, MOPS and mom play groups, our calendar is going to stay pretty packed. I’m trying to get a lot in now before I get to the third trimester when I’m not sure I will be able to keep up with him. We’ve also finally transitioned him down to one nap a day and are on a pretty good schedule of sleep 7-7:30AM, nap around 12:30-3 (only 1.5-2 hours long each so depends when he goes down) and bed usually around 7-7:30PM. He sleeps great overnight but we still haven’t build up a long daytime nap yet…hoping for more consistent 2 hour naps so I can try and get stuff done.
Speaking of this pregnancy, things are going OK. My insulin resistance hasn’t really hit yet, but being that I am now in my 23rd week, I’m expecting the resistance to start increasing at any moment. I’ve been enjoying fairly good numbers with minimal changes over the last 10 weeks or so and in fact, I got my best A1C result ever. I went to the endocrinologist last week and found out my A1C was 5.4!! I couldn’t believe it. To be honest, my average numbers reflect more of a 5.8 or 5.9. I was shocked when my doctor told me it was 5.4. I am sort of questioning the accuracy because I don’t think my numbers have been as good as they could be but I guess I’ll enjoy the congratulations from my endocrinologist and high risk OB while I can. I’m sure as the resistance increases, I won’t be basking in such a nice number.
Around the 25 week mark with my first pregnancy was when I started stressing about where to put my infusion set and CGM. Prior to that, I had only ever put those in my stomach and with limited real estate with the growing belly (limited because of the stretching), I began to freak out. This time around, I have been using my upper bottom for my CGM so I don’t need to stress about that. I’ve been back to putting my infusion set on my stomach so I am slowly moving to my love handles. I’m still stressing a little bit about that but luckily not as much as last time.
I had a 22-week checkup with my high risk OB last week and baby looked good. They did an echocardiogram on baby and all looked good that they could see and baby is measuring around the 75%. The doctor seemed happy with that measurement. With my first pregnancy, my son didn’t grow to the 99% until week 28 so I still have some time to worry about this baby growing big.
I have been so tired this pregnancy and I’m still having major stomach issues. I will go from constipation to diarrhea and never any normal in between. It almost seems like every night I’ve been having major stomach issues and it’s become quite annoying. The exhaustion is also very annoying. I’m sleeping a lot overnight (minus my CGM interruptions or my tossing and turning) but by the time my son goes down for his nap, I’m ready for a nap myself. It doesn’t really leave any time for work or housework so I find I’m really struggling to stay on top of things.
Recently, we also bought furniture for the baby’s nursery but we haven’t done much else to get ready for baby. Even though I’m only at 23 weeks right now, I feel like the next few months are going to fly by so I’m hoping to do some major nesting in the upcoming weeks.
None baby related, I started taking a photography class and that’s been a lot of fun and definitely a good learning experience. I signed up for the intermediate class and I was definitely a little lost the first class. I came home and studied up on my camera and felt more comfortable by the second class. With everything that has been going on, I have been trying to find some time to read books and I’ve actually read a few good ones recently. I’ll have to do a book post sometime soon to fill you in.
It’s been an extremely busy time. I can’t believe I am already 23 weeks along! I’ll get to meet my little guy in less than 16 weeks! I’m a little bit scared that it will be here so soon. I feel like I still have a lot to do before he gets here. I’m pretty happy with my latest A1C but there is still doubt in my mind on its accuracy because my finger blood sugar tests and my 24/7 CGM numbers don’t reflect that but I’ll try to not let that bother me too much. Hope everyone had a great March and is enjoying a good April so far!
