Best of the ‘Betes Blogs-July 2014

Posted on

I am so honored to get to host the Best of the ‘Betes Blogs for July 2014.  There were so many great posts this month, I enjoyed reading all of the nominations! Here are my selections for the Best of the ‘Betes Blogs:

Best Use of Humor: Dayle’s story about trying to get ready for work while treating a low was really cute.

Best Advocacy:  There were so many great nominations in this category, it was really hard to choose.  They were also very different topics in advocacy that trying to choose the best was nearly impossible because they were all so important.  I’m going to go with one that I think might get overlooked a little more than others and that’s Sarah’s post on the importance of getting an eye exam.

Best Story of a D-Meetup: Briley’s story of celebrating her 25th diaversary while at FFL was such a fun story!

Best Non-D Related Post: Christina’s story about boob squishes was a good PSA for women, while still telling diabetes to leave us alone for a bit because our life doesn’t always revolve around D.

Best Post by a Type 1: Kelly’s post about getting an A1C result and being tired from diabetes was truly touching.  I’m pretty sure most people (if not all) can relate to her story, I know I can! She reminds us that sometimes a good cry can really help-hugs to her!

Best Post by a Type Awesome: Wendy’s sharing the story of her daughter’s experience at camp with the Bionic Pancreas was so exciting.  I can’t wait to hear about how it went!

Best Story of a D-Mistake: Courney’s 50 shades of red post describes all the shades of red she saw from a day of tubing on the river.  I want to giver her a big hug after her frustrating (but fun) day.

Best Motivational Post: I’m going to cheat a little and pick two for this category since they sort of go hand-in-hand.  First, was Christopher’s post on dblogcheck day.  It’s such a great day to get the diabetes online community together and spread love and cheer (which we should do everyday!).  Stephen’s post on dblogcheck day discussed the importance of leaving comments and I think it’s a great reminder to all of us about how easy it is to put a smile on someone’s face.

Best Diabetes Art: Meri’s art as she describes what it’s like to have to change all THREE of her son’s basal rates over the summer was really creative. I think trying to change basal rates for just myself is hard, so I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be to do it for all three of her sons, she is my hero.

Best Comment(s): Denise’s comment on Kerri’s blog was so touching and heartfelt.

Best Reference to a D-Celebrity: Nobody was nominated for this category, but I think John Costik is a pretty amazing D-Celebrity even if not “officially.”  Kerri’s post on We Are Not Waiting, talking about John’s efforts on the CGM in the Cloud is such an amazing post that I thought it could go here (it was nominated for Best Advocacy but we had so many great nominations in that category).  It is so amazing what John and his “team” were able to do with the CGM!  I hope this becomes the norm soon!

There were no nominations for the following categories: Best Vlog, Best Recipe, Best Use of Photography, Best Post by a LADA/Type 1.5/Not Otherwise Specified, and Best Post by a Type 2.

Thank you to all those who nominated posts this month and congratulations to those who were nominated!

  1. Great list of awesome posts! Thanks for the shoutout. For the record, I think that what I write about #dblogcheck day is not nearly as important as the fact that we actually HAVE a #dblogcheck day.
