Diabetes Blog Week – My Favorite Things

Posted on

Diabetes Blog Week has come to an end.  I’ve enjoyed reading all the great entries for all the different topics this week.  To wrap up the week, today’s topic is My Favorite Things:

As we wrap up another Diabetes Blog Week, let’s share a few of our favorite things from the week. This can be anything from a #DBlogWeek post you loved, a fantastic new-to-you blog you found, a picture someone included in a post that spoke to you, or comment left on your blog that made you smile. Anything you liked is worth sharing!

First and foremost, I want to thank Karen for hosting another great Diabetes Blog Week!  It’s her fifth year doing the amazing week and it was my second participating.  I LOVED last year because I learned about a TON of new blogs.  This year didn’t disappoint either.  I think I knew about 30% of the blogs out there so I learned of a lot new blogs that I look forward to reading (hopefully I can update my blogroll soon).  I somehow kept up with reading the blogs and I only got behind by a day on Saturday because the weather was so nice and I needed a break (work was also really busy this week!).

The week started off with Change the World Monday.  I loved the messages that people talked about.  When I read the topic, I was so worried about what to say because I’m not a huge advocate of any particular issue.  A lot of people felt the same way and talked about how their blogs were their way for advocating and if they could help one person, then they have succeeded.  I loved that, it’s one reason I started my blog as well!  Lack of education seemed to be another recurring them.  I hadn’t really given that much thought but I agree it is definitely important.

I was amazed at how many great poems I read on Tuesday.  I took the easy way out and did a wildcard but if this category is offered again next year, I’m going to try and do one as well.  I actually think the poems were so important to get across how a person with diabetes feels.  A lot of the poems were very touching and a non-diabetic could learn a lot about what it’s like with diabetes just from reading the poems.  I also loved Grumpy Pumper’s poem, which made me smile-so cute.

Wednesday’s topic was a little harder to read because it was a little bit of a debbie downer.  Despite being a little down, I loved the topic and I’m glad it was selected because it really showed that we really are going through the same things even though our diabetes may vary.

Wednesday’s topic led perfectly into Thursday’s Mantra topic.  I LOVED this day; so many great and motivating mantras.  A few of my favorites from Thursday were Laddie’s Just Do It, Lesley’s “Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good, and Sara’s “You did then what you knew how to do, and when you knew better, you did better.”  I love those.

Friday had a TON of great tips and tricks.  I was so excited to see all the great things that people posted.  I personally loved pizza and wine hack that Katie provided :).  I really enjoyed seeing what everyone’s life with diabetes looks like through snapshots as well.  Of the two wildcard topics I really enjoyed the one where people personified a diabetes tool.  They were all so creative and cute.  The Diabetes Dream Device was also great and I hope diabetes device companies read some of them.

It was a fun but busy week!  I also wanted to give a thanks to those who commented on my blog this week.  It really meant a lot! 🙂 Tuesday, I’ll be participating in the Diabetes Hope Conference, maybe I’ll “see” you there!

  1. Thanks for the shout out! I agree that finding so many diverse voices is one of the best things about d blog week – and it’s awesome that we can be so different but still find so much in common. I have been enjoying your blog so much.

  2. So great seeing your posts, and I’m on the same page — so many awesome ones to read and go through. It’s going to take many more days to just get on through them all! I had the most fun with Tuesday and Thursday, and personally really liked the creative spins on whatever the day’s topic might have been. But all of them are great to read, and it was so nice seeing your perspective. Thanks for sharing this and participating in D-Blog Week, and will definitely “see” you online for the D-Hope Conf!
