A year ago, today, I started my blog. I didn’t actually go live with it until a few months later because I wanted to perfect the look of the site but I started and wrote my first entry exactly a year ago.
It’s been quite a year since I started my blog. 121 posts have been written. I started a running log, which has helped me to keep track of what my blood sugars do during a run. I participated in Diabetes Blog Week. I was nominated and won the Best of the ‘Betes Blogs three times (thanks for nominating me!)! I also won the DSMA Blog Carnival give-away back in April, which included an hour of coaching from Ginger Vieira.
I’ve gotten to know people in the Diabetes Online Community (DOC) who have provided a lot of support this past year. My first diabetic meet-ups were thanks to the DOC, where I found out about Insulindependence and Diabetes Sisters. Over the past year, I discovered many diabetic blogs which have connected me to others with diabetes and as a result, I’ve learned some new tricks and tips and learned about campaigns and movements going on in the DOC such as the Strip Safely Campaign and the Big Blue Test movement. I’ve learned about what to expect during a pregnancy with Type 1 diabetes and I read three diabetes related books that I found because of the DOC (three more than I’ve read my entire 19 years with diabetes).
Writing my blog has been a lot of fun. This blog has been a great outlet to vent and share my disappointments and frustrations, while also a great way to share accomplishments I’ve had despite diabetes. Last week, I got my best A1C ever (7.0), with hopes of getting down Below Seven before 2013 is over.
Thank you for reading and I look forward to another great year ahead.
